Equipment Preventive Maintenance Program

In my past topic, we have talked about on how to develop a facility maintenance program, one of the portfolio requirements of the Trainers Methodology Level 1 (TM-1) core competency Maintain Training Facilities (MTF).

For todays topic, we will talk about the development of an appropriate equipment preventive maintenance program that you can utilized in maintaining your respective qualification's tools and equipment.

The importance of why we need to have a preventive maintenance program have already been tackled in my last posting,  thus, we will no longer explain it here.  Instead we will just focus on the development of the necessary needed tools (forms) for the development and proper implementation of  an equipment preventive maintenance program.

Before I proceed, let me quote on what the Maintain Training Facility - Competency Based Learning Material (MTF-CBLM) says about these equipment maintenance on page 8,

"To perform the maintenance of specific equipment, a maintenance schedule is drawn. Again, the best source of the list of the maintenance activities of equipment is its manufacturers/user’s manual. In the absence of it, the plan can be derived from the known maintenance methods of the equipment and in accordance with the organization’s policy and procedures."

Similar to the facilities maintenance (housekeeping schedule) the MTF-CBLM also mentions that "along the equipment maintenance schedule is the equipment maintenance inspection checklist. The checklist will confirm if the maintenance activities have been performed in order to prolong the life of this particular equipment..." "The Inspection items are stated in a question form as these serve as the criteria or standards of maintenance."

There is a similarity to the forms that we are going to use for the equipment preventive maintenance schedule and  housekeeping schedule, thus the methods of developing our maintenance program is nearly the same when we developed our housekeeping schedule. What we need to remember though is that we need to consult the equipment user's manual to properly implement the required preventive maintenance of this equipment.

Also worth noting is that, every type of equipment have its own preventive maintenance requirements, thus if your qualification uses different types of equipment, you are required to develop a specific preventive maintenance program for each equipment when you become a fully certified Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Instructor that will utilize Competency Based Training (CBT) as a training method.

For your TM-1 portfolio requirements however, you will only be required to develop and submit one set of equipment preventive maintenance program for a given equipment that your respective qualification needs.

What we will need:

  1. A copy of the MTF-CBLM that will serve as our main source of information;
  2. A copy of the equipment preventive maintenance schedule and checklist can be downloaded below.
  3. A copy of your chosen equipment's user and or service manual.

Similar to the other templates that you were able to download from this site, these templates were again made that will allow anyone who uses it to easily determine the needed information that needs to be written in each needed criteria, simply put, it is self explanatory that one can easily follow. Should you have further questions however, please feel free to comment below.

Cheers!
